About Shanny, DO
Firstly, many thanks for taking an interest in my writing and for arriving here. I hope to always maintain my integrity and purpose in starting this: to connect with anyone interested in preventive medicine and timely topics in the medical field. I hope by writing and communicating, I can make a difference for those needing to feel empowered in changing their own health, and for any person in the medical field who feels the almost unavoidable sensation of burnout.
I'm a 3rd year internal medicine resident at an incredible inner-city hospital in Philadelphia, PA currently in the process to pursue a fellowship and career in gastroenterology. Since the start of medical school up to now, I've worked through the struggles of balancing rigorous medical training, becoming my best version of a doctor, and not losing myself in the process. I speak openly about the emotional turmoil that comes along with this, and how I plan to be part of the solution to healthcare worker burnout.
Additionally, I aim to connect to anyone interested in living well by means of preventive medicine: eating well, exercising, sleep hygiene, spirituality, and in general, being a good soul. Living well takes patience, the willingness to do trial and error, and an incredible sense of forgiveness to yourself. My only hope is that by bringing content to social media, I can positively effect the lives of a few (after all, isn't that what doctors should do? <3)
I feel very lucky to share this life with my husband Andrew. He's a physical therapist so it's nice to come home and talk about medicine but with different points of view :-) My personal passions besides medicine & health? Yoga, traveling, taking my dog on walks, and being kind, always!
